She graduated from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature at Peking University in 1952. Throughout her distinguished career, she served as the Director of the Institute of Comparative Literature and Comparative Culture at Peking University, the President of the Chinese Comparative Literature Association (CCLA), and the Vice President of the International Comparative Literature Association (ICLA).
